Over Asli V.
Hello! My name is Aslı and I am a percussionist from Turkey with a specialty of Latin American and Cuban rhythms.
My practical teaching lessons are for bongo, congas, djembe, cajon, frame drum and darbuka. I also offer theory and group lessons on these styles. Besides that I offer Turkish oud and rhythm guitar lessons for beginners.
When approached correctly, percussion instruments do not only spark loads of fun and help you in bringing out your very own sense of rhythm, but they also effectively lead you to the ultimate discovery – that YOU are the actual instrument!
I invite you reclaim your vitality by delving into the realms of percussion.
Extending far beyond a typical course for music instruments, my lessons aim to assist you in acquiring a genuine understanding of yourself and your senses, evoking your feelings by bridging them to your personal harmony, and ultimately, discovering the true nature of yourself.
During our lessons I will introduce you to the rhythmic qualities of many different styles of world music including the sounds and techniques coming from Latin America, Cuba, Africa and Turkey.
Between 1995 and 1999, I received training in Classical Turkish Music from at the Bursa Municipal Conservatory, where Erdinç Çelikkol was the General Director for Arts, and in 2000 I was selected to study Popular Western Music departments at the Müjdat Gezen Performing Arts Center and Conservatory.
During this stage of my music training, I played the guitar, oud and I also sang.
At this critical juncture in my music career, I was inspired by my rhythm instructor and found myself driven to the drums and other percussion instruments! This decision completely changed my life flow, character, body form and energy in a positive sense!
Between 2006 and 2008 I expanded the boundaries of repertoire farther by studying Latin American and Cuban Rhythms with Engin Gürkey, who is Faculty Member in the Percussion Instruments Department of the Istanbul State Conservatory.
I received an academic formation 'performance' program in the field of instructorship and training of trainers at his own percussion studio. I’d like you to experience this positive change by teaching you to play percussion instruments.
Indeed, rhythm alone is the god of all forms of music.
Feel free to join me on this journey, take a first lesson and let us go on this magical journey together.
I look forward to meeting you!
